In this engagement, problem setting and problem solving, the conceptual and the embodied, the analytic and the holistic, are interconnected and interdependent. The very engagement with research parallels the engagement with the arts. Through inquiry, students are engaged in authentic learning experiences where they can build on prior knowledge and understandings, and work with peers to. Inquiry skills are important for student learning. Drawing on Nasir, Rosebery, Warren, and Lee’s definition of culture, I explore how family culture serves as substrateresources for interactionthat can be built.
